11 March 2019 SL Benfica 2 Belenenses 2 Portuguese Primeira Liga

Zacarya Bergdich (Morocco) - Belenenses left wing back, left foot pass, early involvement down his flank, a few misplaced defensive passes, survived a handball appeal, under pressure later in the game.

Pierre Sagna (Senegal) - brief late appearance at full-back for the visitors.

Benfica returned to the top of the Portuguese League although they were held by the visitors before 52,000 in the Estadio da Luz.

After a first half of limited chances, the Eagles scored twice including from a fine control and shot from striker Jonas.

Few would then have forecast that Belenenses would manage to level. But they did and it was due to serious defensive errors by the home side. Firstly when goalie Odysseas misjudged a Viana free-kick and secondly when defender Ruben Dias left a backpass short.

The threats from Rafa and the tricky Joao Felix plus the proven expertise of Jonas up front should have given Benfica the points but it was not to be.

Much discussion afterwards also focussed on the three home handball penalty appeals, that were all denied following referrals.
